Monsanto is wrong to charge people who have saved their seeds for the next planting! Monsanto has created an unsustainable system and its killing people and destroying families!!!!
Mamta’s (the character in the documentary) marriage is actually void by law. If she chooses, she is free as a bird. She may not be empowered by that knowledge though. Schools should educate on sex and marriage at an earlier age -maybe 12. Most girls meet puberty close to that age.
This is a sad issue and we feel deeper when we see our girls growing up. This is a bold effort to raise awareness to the despicable practices and traditions that shadow our culturally rich country.
ban child marriages
They are already banned by law. Still practiced by people in some parts- it’s a social problem
Overall child development and protection indicators in rural India are very alarming – and child marriage is one such indicator. I like this report because it looks at the situation with a certain degree of empathy without compromising or diluting the gravity of rights violations of girls. What India, and many other countries with similar phenomena are struggling with, is to figure out how they would deal with the phenomena. What Sanjog proposes is to understand why and how the Child Marriage prevention laws have not worked and build strategies on learning from it.

This has largely to do do with education and gender ratio imbalance in India. The state of Kerala which has the highest literacy rate in India (92.6%) has a healthy ratio of 1084 females for every 1000 males. This makes it easier for men coming of age to choose a life partner. Compare this to a state that has low literacy and probably a skewed gender balance, where the boy child is preferred to a girl. In such situations, where are the girls of marriagable age going to come from when there are probably only 940(or less)women for 1000 men?

I am horrified. I am sometimes being very ashamed, frightened and sadddened about what human beings are capable of.
I think this is a very important issue, not just for India!
#childmarriage violates #HumanRights
Yes. Families need a support system when they go against this tradition. They have to deal with family reputation issues and societal pressure, especially when the same villages have few young girls- a direct result of gendercide in these societies.
#childmarriage is child abuse. #givegirlspower
Great idea – education + activism!
